PROTECT MORE. REPLACE LESS WHEN POSSIBLE.
A Smarter Approach to Fire-Resistant Fencing
You may not need a complete perimeter replacement. In many situations, addressing the section where the fence approaches the home can substantially reduce the most direct exposure.

PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM A DIRECT WILDFIRE PATH
Fire-Resistant Fencing & Zone 0 Upgrades in Los Angeles
A wood or combustible fence can become more than a property boundary during a wildfire. Once ignited by embers, burning vegetation, or a neighboring fire, it can carry flames directly toward your home.
CAL FIRE specifically warns that combustible fencing attached to a residence can create a direct fire pathway to the home and recommends replacing the section closest to the structure with a noncombustible alternative.
FPLA – Fire Protection Los Angeles provides fire-resistant fencing, noncombustible fence transitions, metal gates, and full fence replacement solutions for Los Angeles County properties.
Whether you need to upgrade only the section closest to your house or replace an entire combustible fence, we can help determine the most practical solution for your property.
OUR SERVICES
Stop Fire From Using Your Fence as a Path to Your Home
The most dangerous part of a combustible fence is often the section closest to the house.
Leaves and debris can collect at the base. Embers can ignite those materials. Flames can then spread along wood fencing toward siding, windows, eaves, decks, garages, and other vulnerable areas.
The solution does not always require replacing your entire fence.

ZONE 0 FENCE TRANSITIONS
Replace the combustible section closest to your home with a suitable noncombustible fencing solution designed to interrupt the fire pathway.

FIRE-RESISTANT METAL GATES
Upgrade wood or combustible gates beside the home with steel, aluminum, or another appropriate noncombustible option.

FULL METAL FENCE REPLACEMENT
Replace an aging wood, vinyl, or combustible fence with a durable metal fencing system designed for privacy, security, and improved wildfire resistance.
FIRE-RISK & FENCE ASSESSMENT
We evaluate how your existing fence connects to your house, gate, landscaping, neighboring properties, and other potential fire exposures before recommending a solution.

PREPARE YOUR PROPERTY BEFORE REQUIREMENTS CATCH UP
New Zone 0 Fence Requirements Are Coming
California is establishing Zone 0, an ember-resistant area covering the first five feet around covered structures.
The Board of Forestry is considering final Zone 0 regulations on August 19, 2026. The rules are intended to apply to properties in State Responsibility Areas and properties in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones within Local Responsibility Areas.
For covered properties, the proposed rules move toward requiring noncombustible fence and gate transitions near the structure, rather than allowing a combustible fence to create an uninterrupted connection to the home.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR LOS ANGELES HOMEOWNERS?
It does not mean that every wood fence in Los Angeles suddenly needs to be removed.
Your requirements can depend on:
- Your property address
- Your official fire-hazard designation
- Your local jurisdiction
- How close the fence is to the home
- Whether the fence attaches directly to the structure
- Whether the project involves a new fence or an existing fence
- Final state and local implementation requirements
FPLA can review your property and help determine what type of upgrade makes sense.
If your home is in a wildfire-prone area, there is little benefit in waiting for a compliance notice to address a known fire pathway.
PROTECT MORE. REPLACE LESS WHEN POSSIBLE.
A Smarter Approach to Fire-Resistant Fencing
FOCUSED ZONE 0 TRANSITION
Keep the usable portion of your existing fence and replace the combustible section nearest the structure.
A good option when the rest of the fence is in good condition and the primary concern is the connection to the house.
EXTENDED HOME-HARDENING TRANSITION
Go beyond the minimum transition area for additional separation between combustible fencing and your home.
CAL FIRE’s current home-hardening guidance recommends replacing the first eight feet of an attached combustible fence or gate with a noncombustible option.
COMPLETE FIRE-RESISTANT FENCE
Replace the entire combustible fence with a metal or other suitable system.
A good option for homeowners who also want to improve privacy, security, durability, appearance, and overall property hardening.
REAL WILDFIRES. REAL LESSONS.
A Fence Can Change How Fire Moves Around a Home
This is not simply a theoretical risk.
Post-fire research has repeatedly identified combustible fences as part of the way wildfire can move through residential neighborhoods. NIST specifically identified fencing as an important fire-spread issue following the Waldo Canyon Fire and has conducted additional research into how fencing contributes to ignition and fire movement in the wildland-urban interface.
The principle is simple:
When combustible materials connect one fire exposure to another, fire has a pathway. Breaking that connection can help slow or interrupt its progress.

BETTER PROTECTION WITHOUT GIVING UP PRIVACY
Fire Safety Can Still Look Good
Choosing a fire-resistant fence does not mean surrounding your home with industrial-looking panels.
Modern metal fencing can provide:
- Full privacy
- Contemporary horizontal designs
- Traditional vertical designs
- Decorative finishes
- Custom gates
- Security
- Low maintenance
- Long-term durability
- Multiple colors and styles
- A clean architectural appearance
The goal is to combine wildfire protection, privacy, durability, and curb appeal in one system.
FPLA can help you select the right fencing approach for both the property’s fire exposure and its appearance.
A STRAIGHTFORWARD PROCESS FROM ASSESSMENT TO INSTALLATION
Fire-Resistant Fencing Done Right
A straightforward process from assessment to installation.
- PROPERTY & FENCE ASSESSMENT
We review where the existing fence and gate sit in relation to your home, garage, deck, vegetation, and other combustible features. - ZONE 0 & FIRE-RISK REVIEW
Where applicable, we consider available wildfire-hazard information and how current or incoming Zone 0 requirements may affect the property. - CHOOSE THE RIGHT SOLUTION
We determine whether a focused transition, gate replacement, extended hardened section, or complete fence replacement makes the most sense. - MATERIAL & PROJECT PLANNING
We select appropriate materials, layout, height, privacy level, gates, finish, and other project details. - PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION
Where specialty fence work is required, FPLA can coordinate installation with appropriately licensed and insured fencing professionals or subcontractors. - FINAL WALKTHROUGH
Once the work is complete, the project is reviewed against the agreed scope and the property is left clean and ready to use.

OUR QUALIFICATIONS
Why Choose FPLA – Fire Protection Los Angeles?
A traditional fence company may look at your property and ask:
What type of fence do you want?
We start with a different question:
How could fire use this fence to reach your home?
That difference matters.
FPLA approaches fencing as part of a larger wildfire-protection strategy. We evaluate the fence together with the home, vegetation, access points, neighboring exposures, and surrounding fire hazards.
Our goal is to help provide a solution that protects the property without automatically replacing more fencing than necessary.
